We have an exciting opportunity for an Elections Support Officer to join our Governance team.
The Elections team organise all electoral events in the District which includes elections for County Council, District, Parish, Parliamentary, Police and Crime Commissioner elections and Referenda. You will play a key part in providing a smooth and efficient electoral service across the District.
Working with the Elections manager you will provide a comprehensive electoral service including the efficient and timely preparation and updating of the Electoral Register in accordance with statutory deadlines using an electoral software system. You will also play a lead role in organising the elections and referenda held in the district in accordance with legislative and local requirements.
The work can be demanding and has peaks to meet legislative election and registration deadlines, therefore the successful candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and positive. A flexible approach to working hours is also essential as the role will involve working outside of your normal office hours during the Election delivery period.
The experience you will bring
You will have significant previous administrative experience of working in a legal or governance environment together with proven experience of working in customer facing roles. With a good understanding of electoral processes you will ideally have the AEA Certificate of Electoral Administration qualification – if you haven’t we will provide the opportunity to gain this.
Along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will have strong organisational skills, have a high degree of attention to detail and have the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines. Good working knowledge of IT including word and excel and bespoke applications (Electoral Software systems) is required along with a pro-active approach with excellent time management skills.
