You will assist in ensuring Internal Audit activity is carried out efficiently and effectively, and in accordance with the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and will support the team in designing and implementing processes which meet those standards.
In this varied role you will undertake a wide range of assignments, working both as part of a team as well as being assigned your own individual tasks on a wide range of services across the Council. You will conduct reviews and testing to enable you to form conclusions and write reports summarising your findings making recommendations as appropriate to assist services in improving controls, governance and risk management arrangements.
We are interested to hear from you if you already have Audit experience, or if you are interested in starting a career in this area. We will encourage and support you to achieve the Institute of Internal Auditor qualifications (or equivalent) whilst at the same time giving you the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience.
To be successful you will need excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, be confident, approachable, courteous, and flexible, and be able to work under pressure managing conflicting priorities. You should be proficient in IT skills across a range of packages including MS Office applications such as Word and Excel. Just as important will be your enthusiasm for the role.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Housing Assessment Support Officer to join the busy Housing Assessment Team at Braintree District Council.
The role involves maintaining the Housing Register for the district through the Gateway to Homechoice website and the duties will include assessing housing applications, dealing with changes of circumstances, advertising empty properties for social landlords and shortlisting for some landlords.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills as they will be constantly dealing with customers, colleagues and staff from partner organisations. The service uses a complex IT system and the successful applicant will need to have a good working knowledge of IT.

A knowledge of housing issues and previous experience of working in a housing-related role would be an advantage, but is not essential as training will be provided.

You will need good knowledge of all areas of horticultural work, have proven experience of working in an outdoor environment and be able to train and develop staff in practical skills necessary for the job.

A qualification or training in Health and Safety, including manual handling and risk assessments, is essential for this role.

Are you interested in a career in Motor Mechanics? We have an exciting opportunity for an HGV Apprentice to join our busy Fleet & Plant workshop team, combining study with on-site experience.
Working under the guidance of experienced technicians, you will cover all aspects of vehicle maintenance including safety inspections, Service and MOT prep, defect rectification to welding and roadside breakdowns
You will work towards achieving a Level 3 qualification in HGV Motor Mechanics and will develop your skills and knowledge, learning to work independently and diagnose various vehicle faults across a wide range of the Council’s specialist fleet, which includes RCVs, road sweepers, box vehicles and LCV.
You will be involved in all aspects of the team’s work, including paperwork, inspection and MOT documentation and Break Roller exams, working to the high standard set by the DVSA (Driver Vehicle Standards Agency) and manufactures procedures and in accordance with the requirements of the Councils Operator’s Licence, Road Traffic Acts, and other related legislations.
To be successful in the role, you will need to work well under pressure, be willing to learn new skills and be able to use your initiative and follow instructions.
You must have good written and verbal communication skills, as the role is internal customer facing. You will need to be confident using Microsoft Office packages, and you will be educated to GCSE A-C (4-9) or have equivalent skills in English, Maths and ICT.
A driving licence, or the ability to travel to the workshop and college in Harlow, is essential.
As part of the interview process candidates will have the opportunity to visit the workshop and meet the team for more of an informal chat about the position.
